Dopo aver esaminato le certificazioni Cambridge in questo articolo, oggi parleremo di una certificazione estremamente popolare negli ultimi anni: la certificazione IELTS.
La sigla IELTS significa International English Language Testing System e misura il livello di conoscenza dell’inglese dei candidati che vogliono studiare o lavorare nei paesi in cui si parla inglese.
Il punteggio che si può ottenere va da 1 a 9, dove 1 è il minimo (non-user) e 9 il massimo (expert). A differenza delle certificazioni Cambridge, l’IELTS è dunque un esame UNICO per tutti i livelli; tuttavia, si divide in due versioni: ACADEMIC (per i candidati che ne hanno bisogno per l’accesso ad università italiane ed estere oppure per specifiche opportunità di lavoro) e GENERAL TRAINING (per chi si sposta in Australia, Canada o Regno Unito per finalità di studio, lavorative o di formazione in genere).

| 5 | Modest user | The test taker has a partial command of the language and copes with overall meaning in most situations, although they are likely to make many mistakes. They should be able to handle basic communication in their own field. |
| 4 | Limited user | The test taker’s basic competence is limited to familiar situations. They frequently show problems in understanding and expression. They are not able to use complex language. |
| 3 | Extremely limited user | The test taker conveys and understands only general meaning in very familiar situations. There are frequent breakdowns in communication. |
| 2 | Intermittent user | The test taker has great difficulty understanding spoken and written English. |

Il punteggio finale di un esame IELTS è determinato dalla media del punteggio che si ottiene nelle singole prove (Listening, Reading, Writing e Speaking).
E’ VERO CHE L’IELTS SCADE DOPO DUE ANNI?
Sni, nel senso che il certificato non ha scadenza. Inoltre, ogni organizzazione (azienda o Università) può stabilire o meno una scadenza affine alle proprie necessità. Tuttavia, gli IELTS partner raccomandano di valutare un risultato IELTS non oltre i due anni, considerando che se la lingua non viene praticata per quel periodo di tempo è facile che il livello effettivo cambi… in peggio.
